The development of the San Fernando Valley started taking off in the late 1940s and never looked back. So, last year when I started hiking with some friends in Limekiln Canyon in Northridge I was thrilled to find that there was this serene oasis right here in my own back yard.
The trail we explored was just under 4 miles round-trip, following a stream that flows year round. Enjoying this path in the spring would be best because the wild flowers and lurking critters abound and entertain you as you make your way through the winding canyon.
There are several exercise stations for those who are looking for more than a casual stroll and plenty picnic areas if you are looking to escape for a little while to forget that you are smack dab in the middle of the city! I look forward to wandering on this hike every time. It’s the perfect peaceful breakout from the hustle and bustle of the city life.
P.S. It’s a great place for dog walking, too. Just don’t forget your baggie!
To check it out, park on Rinaldi Street, halfway between Corbin Avenue and Tampa Avenue.
